A Big, Boring Wedding

The decorations were up

and the lamps were lit.

The stage was yet to be set,
while the girls looked for the bride’s make-up kit
The bride was now shining,
except that she along with everyone else
was profusely sweating.
And the bridegroom looked as uninterested as me
I was dreaming about the nearby, calming sea
when it came to an abrupt end
as an auntie sitting beside me
commented, rudely, on another one’s sari.
The aunties’ endless chatter and the uncles’ debates

never seemed to end when lo!

The bridegroom, wiping his face,
garlanded the bride and muttered, “Here we go…”
I was joyous –
certainly not for the couple –
,but for the scrumptious food
that impatiently waited in a bad mood
